Monterey Peninsula Voices announces its upcoming spring concert, "Celestial Voices," a musical journey that explores the stars, the heavens, and the mysteries of the celestial sky, celebrating the unity of the human spirit. Two performances, held at the First United Methodist Church in Pacific Grove on May 10 and 11, will feature a diverse repertoire that reflects the awe and wonder inspired by the cosmos.
The 60-person community choir will perform a variety of pieces, from sacred to secular to jazz, and includes music from such acclaimed composers as Ola Gjeilo, Elaine Hagenberg, Morten Lauridsen, Christopher Tin and others. Gjeilo’s “Dark Night of the Soul,” Haydn’s “The Heavens are Telling” from his major work “The Creation,” The Beatles’ “Across the Universe,” and popular tunes such as “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman will provide variety and musical beauty. A four-piece Chamber group will accompany the piano on many of the pieces.
The concerts will be held on Mother’s Day Weekend, Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. The First United Methodist Church (aka Butterfly Church) is located at 915 Sunset Drive in Pacific Grove.
Tickets can be purchased from choir members or through the website, www.mpvoices.org/tickets. Prices are $30 for General Admission, $25 for Seniors/Active Military/Students under 18, and $20 for Children 12 and under.
